The anejo spends its time in oak barrels, softening the agave into something rounder and darker without erasing the plant. It is the sort of bottle that earns a standing place on the shelf rather than a single curious purchase.
Caramel, toasted oak and a little dried fruit lead, cooked agave runs through the middle, and the finish carries a dusting of baking spice. Good neat, better in a stirred agave old fashioned with a wide strip of orange peel. For anyone who wants aged tequila character without aged tequila pricing.
