Altitude is the whole idea at Terrazas de los Andes. Their vineyards climb the foothills of the Andes in Mendoza, where thin air and wide day-to-night temperature swings slow ripening and build color, acidity and aromatic intensity. This Reserva Malbec is the bottle that made their reputation, and it remains one of the better-argued cases for Argentine red wine at a sensible price.
Deep purple, with blackberry, plum, violet and a mocha edge from oak, framed by supple tannin and a long finish. Serve it at cool room temperature after a short decant. Grilled steak is the obvious answer, and the right one.
