Islay is treeless, windblown and improbably rich in wild plants, and this gin is essentially an argument about that. Twenty-two botanicals are hand-foraged on the island itself and added to a base of classic gin botanicals, then distilled slowly. Very few gins can claim a sense of place this specific, and fewer still deliver on it.
Complex and herbaceous rather than juniper-forward, with heather, wild mint, thistle, citrus peel and a soft floral sweetness over a long, dry finish. It makes a remarkable gin and tonic with a sprig of mint instead of lime, and a martini with genuine character. Worth sipping neat over ice at least once.
