Cool nights, long sunlight hours and free-draining valley soils at the top of New Zealand South Island produce a wine of almost startling aromatic clarity, and The Ned is one of the more consistently satisfying versions at its price. A reliable weekly bottle rather than an occasional treat.
Pungent and precise, with passionfruit, gooseberry, lime zest and a cut-grass note, finishing dry, taut and refreshing. Serve it very cold. It is superb with oysters and goat cheese, and it stands up better than most whites to green vegetables, herbs and Thai or Vietnamese food.
