That unsettling figure on the label is lifted from a Goya etching, and the wine inside was similarly unconcerned with convention when it appeared: a rich, unapologetic Napa red blend at a time when single varietals dominated the conversation. It won a large and durable following, and the 2019 shows why the formula has held up.
Plush and full-bodied, with black cherry, raspberry preserve, cocoa, vanilla and a note of sweet baking spice over soft, rounded tannin. Serve it at cool room temperature after a short decant. Pair it with grilled ribeye, short ribs, or anything smoky off a charcoal grill.
