A collaboration between Buffalo Trace and Chris Stapleton, Traveller was assembled by working through dozens of candidate recipes until one survived — Blend No. 40. Blended whiskey has spent decades treated as a lesser category in America, and part of what makes this release interesting is how deliberately it argues the opposite.
Smooth and approachable, with caramel, honey, toasted vanilla and a light fruitiness, finishing soft and sweet rather than hot. Easy neat, better still on a rock, and it holds its shape in an Old Fashioned or a highball. A good bottle for someone who finds barrel-proof bourbon exhausting.
