Nathan Green, known as Nearest, was the enslaved distiller who taught Jack Daniel how to make whiskey, and this brand exists to put his name back on a bottle. The story would sell on its own, but the whiskey is the real argument: made in Tennessee, charcoal mellowed and bottled at a full 100 proof.
At that strength the flavors arrive with authority, toasted caramel, dark cherry, baking spice and a dry oak finish that lingers. Add a few drops of water to open it up, or pour it over one large cube. It builds an excellent Old Fashioned and stands up in a Manhattan. For drinkers who want history and proof in the same glass.
