This is the top of the small range John Varvatos and Nick Jonas built around the idea that tequila deserves the same attention as a good whiskey. A year or more in oak takes the edges off without burying the agave, which is the balance anejo so often misses.
Pour it neat in a copita and give it a minute. Butterscotch, dried orange, cinnamon and a long warm finish reward the patience. This is an after-dinner tequila for people who otherwise drink bourbon, and a fair substitute for one in an old fashioned.
