Viña Sastre farms in Ribera del Duero, on the high Spanish plateau where Tempranillo turns dense and savory rather than soft. The Roble is the estate's entry point, a young wine given a short spell in oak to round its edges while leaving the fruit bright. For anyone curious about the region without committing to a reserva, this is the honest introduction.
Blackberry and red plum lead, with leather, dried herb and a whisper of vanilla from the barrel. The tannins are firm but ready, the finish dry and lifted. Drink it with roast lamb, chorizo, grilled vegetables or manchego, and serve it a touch cooler than room temperature.
