New Belgium turned Voodoo Ranger into the biggest name in American IPA by taking the style seriously and refusing to be precious about it. The Hazy Imperial is the range at full volume, a big soft-textured double IPA loaded with modern aroma hops. It is not a session beer and does not pretend to be.
The pour is cloudy gold, the aroma pure mango, pineapple and citrus. Bitterness stays restrained, letting juicy hop flavor and a pillowy body carry it, and the strength hides well. Drink it cold and fresh from a tulip glass, one at a time, with fried chicken, tacos or a burger.
