Warre's has been shipping Port from the Douro since 1670, making it the oldest of the British houses in the trade. King's Tawny is the everyday bottle in the range, a wood-aged blend that trades the grand vintage statement for immediate, uncomplicated pleasure. Tawny keeps for weeks once opened, which makes it the most practical fortified wine to own.
Caramel, walnut, dried fig and orange peel, sweet but balanced by a nutty dryness on the finish. Serve it lightly chilled in a small glass. It is excellent with almonds, blue cheese, chocolate or a slice of tart, and a fine thing to pour at the end of a cold evening.
