Product Description
Junmai means pure rice — sake made from nothing but rice, water, koji and yeast, with no added distilled alcohol. It is the most straightforward category in sake and often the most food-friendly. This 300ml bottle from the Watanabe brewery in Gifu is one generous serving, ideal for trying the style without committing to a full bottle.
Fuller and more savoury than the lighter grades: cooked rice, toasted grain, a hint of mushroom and a dry, umami-laden finish. Good chilled, and genuinely excellent warmed to around body temperature. Pair it with grilled mackerel, miso-glazed vegetables, mushrooms or aged cheese.
