Buffalo Trace built the Weller line on soft red winter wheat, and Antique 107 is where that recipe grows teeth. The bottle carries the old-fashioned label the brand has used for generations, but the whiskey inside is the most requested of the widely released Wellers, largely because the proof gives it a presence the standard bottling does not attempt.
The palate runs rich and sweet before turning spicy: toffee, dried fruit, baking spice and a dry, oak-driven close. Heat is noticeable and welcome. Pour a small measure, add water to taste, and let it sit a moment. Equally good as the backbone of a stirred cocktail that needs to stay whiskey-forward.
