Widow Jane takes its name from a limestone mine in the Hudson Valley, and mineral water drawn from it goes into every bottle the Red Hook distillery proofs down. The ten-year is their flagship: a small blend of aged American straight bourbons, selected barrel by barrel, bottled at 91 proof and non-chill-filtered. Brooklyn is an unlikely place for serious bourbon.
Ten years gives it real depth, with dark caramel, cocoa, dried cherry, vanilla and a savory oak spine, plus a soft, almost chalky minerality that is the brand's signature and a long dry finish. Drink it neat or with one cube. A thinking drinker's bourbon, and a good answer to what else should I try.
