Product Description
Eddie Russell created 81 as a gentler door into the Wild Turkey house style, aimed at mixing rather than contemplation. The recipe and the barrels are the same ones behind the distillery's higher-proof bottlings, but at 81 proof the whiskey opens up sooner and plays better with other ingredients. Bartenders adopted it quickly.
Softer than its siblings without going bland: vanilla, honey, caramel and baked pear with a light rye prickle and a clean, moderately oaky finish. Comfortable neat, good on ice, and genuinely excellent in a highball, mint julep or whiskey ginger where a stronger bourbon would take over the glass.
