Samuel Smith planted his first vines at Yalumba in 1849, making it the oldest family-owned winery in Australia, and six generations later the family still runs it from Angaston in the Barossa. That kind of continuity is rare anywhere in wine and close to unheard of at this price.
A modern Australian Chardonnay built on stone fruit and citrus rather than butter and toast, with white peach, nectarine and lemon over a creamy texture and a crisp, mineral close. Serve chilled with roast chicken, grilled fish, pasta in cream sauce or a soft cheese. For drinkers who want Chardonnay with restraint.
